Mt. Bross

June 10, 2015

The last couple weeks had been filled with a few successful winter ascents for Jeff Kepler, Pat “Perry” Johnson, and I. With curiosity about the conditions on Mt. Bross, we decided to attempt the east slopes route in hopes of some good turns in it’s bowl below the summit. A short drive to our start and we were met with warmer than expected temperatures which raised some concerns about the quality and safety of the snow. We decided to proceed with caution and assess the conditions as we went.Read More »Mt. Bross

Mt. Bierstadt / Mt. Evans Sawtooth Traverse

September 16, 2015

Looking to get our class 3 fix, Pat Johnson and I decided that the Sawtooth traverse between Mt. Bierstadt and Mt. Evans was good to go. We did not waste much time on the summit with the mountains engulfed in clouds and a chilling temperature in the air.Read More »Mt. Bierstadt / Mt. Evans Sawtooth Traverse

Fletcher Mountain / Drift Peak Traverse

September 9, 2015

After a long month of working on summits in the Tenmile Range, Pat Johnson and I were both on the verge of completing the range’s peaks over 13,000 ft. With a clear and sunny day ahead of us we departed the trailhead above Montgomery Reservoir and onward towards Mt. Fletcher. After gaining the saddle between Fletcher and Quandary we quickly made our way to the summit. This marked my completion of summiting every peak over 13,000 ft. in the Tenmile Range in less than a year.

Northstar Mountain

September 7, 2015

Pat Johnson and I ventured out on the trailhead to Northstar Mountain, a 13er at the southern end of the Tenmile Range, around 4:00 AM with clear skies and bright stars. After an approach on some mining roads we decided to beeline it through some scree and up to the ridge to Northstar. A long hike along a narrow saddle eventually lead us to the summit just after sunrise. During the descent we were rewarded with a fierce snow squall coming from the Mosquito Range, quickly assuring us that winter is right around the corner.
