Mt. Bancroft – East Ridge Direct

October 18, 2016

Fall was having a slower start than usual in the high country. Winter was nowhere in sight and warm temperatures seemed to keep everyone’s minds on summer activities. The East Ridge Direct route of the 13,250 ft. Mt. Bancroft had been on my list for a while. Justin Ibarra and Pat “Perry” Johnson were interested in the idea so we decided to give it a go. After a bit of research to gain the necessary knowledge of the route, we figured out the gear we would need and set off early from Summit County.Read More »Mt. Mohawk Lakes Traverse (Helen Mt. – Father Dyer Peak – Crystal Peak – Pacific Peak)

June 28, 2016

Temperatures began to rise and the remaining alpine snow was quickly disappearing before our eyes. Summer was finally beginning to dominate the high country. Pat “Perry” Johnson and I were eager to transition into approaches involving lighter packs and routes with more rock than snow. We planned for a full day in the alpine knowing that the weather would be bluebird and warm.Read More »Mohawk Lakes Traverse (Helen Mt. – Father Dyer Peak – Crystal Peak – Pacific Peak)

Front Range Camping Trip

November 8 – 9, 2015

With snow accumulating in the high alpine, Pat “Perry” Johnson and Jon Creasy planned a camping trip into a part of the Front Range not too far from Breckenridge. Since I haven’t camped in winter weather in a while, I decided to take the opportunity to brush up on my skills and get out there with them. We reached the trailhead and started the skin to our destination. This consisted of pretty good snow but did have a lot of rocks and melted out areas to avoid.Read More »Front Range Camping Trip

Mt. Edwards / Argentine Peak / Mt. Wilcox / Square Top Mountain A

September 25, 2015

With a beautiful Friday free for both Pat “Perry” Johnson and I, a stroll around some Front Range 13ers seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. T-shirt weather in the alpine doesn’t come around too often this late in the season and we relished the warm weather all day. We made our way from Peru Creek to the summit of Mt. Edwards and then we were off to Argentine Peak. After a quick break at the summit we headed to Mt. Wilcox via its rolling ridge. Descending from its summit and we were off to Square Top Mountain A.Read More »Mt. Edwards / Argentine Peak / Mt. Wilcox / Square Top Mountain A

Peak 10

June 16, 2015

Jeff Kepler, Pat “Perry” Johnson, and I were having a great spring so far filled with some successful splitboard trips. On the morning of June 16, 2015 we decided to attempt Crystal Peak’s summit. Starting around 4:30 AM at the trailhead we made our way up from Spruce Creek road. We encountered some very wet conditions, including a sketchy creek crossing, that made the approach interesting to say the least. After making our way above treeline Perry realized he did not have enough time to go for Crystal as he had to be at work later that morning. Some quick deliberation led us to go for Peak 10’s summit and then ride it’s southern slopes instead. The safe snow conditions assured us that this call was a good one.Read More »Peak 10
